We made a short
trip to Edam and stayed in a truly Dutch scenery. We came across
pretty scenic buildings, bridges, boats, and … cheese. It was a fun
experience to feel like a real Dutchman. Naturally we made some
pictures. Click on a picture to enlarge. |

Edam, the city of cheese, has real old-fashioned Dutch
houses, nice bridges, and naturally the well-known
golden-colored round cheeses. |

Volendam is famous for its folkloric costume, including the
well-known wooden shoes. The port is full of tourists,
devouring tasty fish. You can also have a picture taken of you
in folkloric costume (which we did). And you can take the boat
to Marken. |

Marken is a beautiful folkloric village with many pretty little
houses. We really enjoyed strolling through the narrow streets and
alleys – occasionally passing pretty court- yards. We didn’t meet
anyone in folkloric costume, unfortunately. It’s not that rare
tough, so next time we’ll give it another try. |

Monnickendam is small town at the Gouw sea with a small
historic centre.
In the centre stands the St. Nicolas church.
We had a good time sitting on a terrace
in the port. The smell of smoked fish was everywhere. |

Hoorn is a city where it’s easy to enjoy yourself. You’ll find
modern shopping streets here, but also many monuments and
museums. In the port and around it, there
is a lot to see. And there are many terraces where you can
observe the activity while enjoying your drink. |
