Close to
Stresa lies Isola Bella, a pretty island with a wonderful
palace and garden. Originally an desolate rocky island, it
was bought by the wealthy and powerful Borromeo family
between 1630 and 1670. Well-known architects and designers
were contracted to build a palace and garden in baroque
style.
The palace
has magnificent and richly decorated halls. The garden
consists of ten stepwise terraces. |
